Up for sale is a Stunning Service for 8 Gorham Sterling Buttercup #1899 Silverware Set.
Composition: Sterling Silver (.925)
Pattern: Buttercup Brand: Gorham
Includes 56pcs with original wooden case:
All of them, but the knives, also have STERLING & PATENT 1900 on them.
This pattern was supposedly made from 1899-1950, & is now discontinued. This set has the Lion facing left, an anchor, & a G on each piece.
With that being said, some of the marks are somewhat conflicting, & made these a little difficult to date.
The anchors (some rounded/some pointy) & lions (some thinner than the others) seem to vary, but the G is the same on all.
The E is supposed to represent the year – which would be 1872. The E in a diamond. – couldn’t find that one.
Regardless, this is an amazingly beautiful design, & a perfect addition to any dining table.
