Cosmograph: a name that was to be the forerunner of great fortune. Actually, the choice of the name proved to be neither easy nor expected. Whilst Rolex on the one hand flirted with the car-racing world, on the other hand it could not remain unaware of the vast media attention, which at that time was surrounding the conquest of outer space.
COSMOGRAPH DAYTONA STEEL
Rolex, Oyster Cosmograph, Daytona, Ref. 6265. Made circa 1971. Very fine and rare, water-resistant, stainless steel wristwatch with steel bezel, round button screw-down chronograph, registers, tachometer and a stainless steel Rolex Oyster bracelet Ref. 78350.
Three-body, polished and brushed, screwed-down case back, buttons and Triplock winding crown, tachometer graduation on the bezel to 200 units per hour.
Bi-colored Silver and Black with applied white gold baton indexes and luminous dots, outer 1/5th seconds track, subsidiary guilloché dials for the seconds, the 12-hour and 30-minute registers. Luminous steel baton hands. Cal. 727, rhodium-plated, 17 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, monometallic balance with Microstella regulating screws, adjusted to 3 positions, shock absorber, self-compensating Breguet balance spring.
